Howard was one of the kindest and friendliest "gentlemen" I ever knew. I met him in my early teens through the Explorer Post 963 at LFD where he was an excellent mentor for us kids who were learning "the job". During summers home from college when I worked for the Parks Department, he'd go out of his way to find me to say "hello" during his daily walks through Outwater Park. In our discussions in the park we'd solve most, if not all of the world's problems. When I'd return to Lockport for a visit after having moved away, Howard and I would always "catch up" outside St. Pat's after Mass. Howard dealt with the repeated challenges in his life with grace and dignity. His faith was unwaivering as he patiently waited to be reunited with his sons and Marion. The example he set and his good counsel made a lot of us better firefighters and better people. I'll always remember fondly the warmth of his smile. Rest in Peace Brother. Terry Hannigan--Albany NY
