Q: How did you meet Mary?
A: As a young girl in the Grace Episcopal Church choir, Mary and her sisters were wonderful role models for me. Mary was a gentle spirit and was always kind. While the years & life have gone on, Mary and the Jackson family always shared kindness and love to me and my family. To her husband, children and family, I send peace, hope and beautiful memories. Mary Ruth Jackson Hall was my first Best Friend in the 1950’s. She lived on Juniper Street and I lived on Cleveland Place.
When I read of her passing all my old memories flashed back. Washington Hunt, Roger’s Park, walking to and from school, ice skating, riding bikes, roller skating, hop scotch, Simon says, caching fireflies, having circus games in her backyard (her parents always approved), hide and seek, dancing recitals, sleepovers, and trips to their cottage, that her parents so generously invited me along in the summertime! In 1959 I had to move to Wilson. As time would have it we lost track of each other. My sincere sympathy to all of Mary’s family and may she rest in peace. Again, my earliest and fondest memories of friendship were with Mary, my friend with the long golden braids………I will remember her always.

From the halls of Washington Hunt, Belknap, & LSHS our lives intertwined. Couple that with synchronized swimming, Roger’s Avenue Park, the Country Club & Y-Teens at the YWCA…more shared experiences. Lockport friends for life. Warm wishes and fond memories to Jack & your beautiful family Mary. Rest in peace for a life well-lived!
