Obituary of David R. Chamberlain
David Chamberlain passed away January 18, 2024. Born December 11, 1935 in Watertown, NY, he was the son of Gordon and Eunice (Cross) Chamberlain. David graduated from Watertown High School and Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then pursued his NYS Professional Engineer license.
David began his career at the Niagara Power Project and went on to start his own construction company in 1972. The company, DR Chamberlain Corporation, was a labor of love that started in his basement and expanded through the decades. After selling the company, David had a brief retirement before starting up a development corporation. He found his true calling in engineering and worked until his passing.
David married Mary Louise in 1963 and celebrated 59 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed travel, skiing and sailing and were members of the Holimont Ski Club and several yacht clubs. David had a love of fishing and always looked for a chance to get on the lake with his brother and friends. Later in life, he discovered a talent for painting. David was a past board member of the NCCC Foundation and a sponsor of scholarships and programs at NCCC and Clarkson University.
David is predeceased by his wife Mary Louise (Layer). He is survived by his children Michael D. (Cynthia) Chamberlain and Lara J. Chamberlain. He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Marra, Lois Wheeler, Marcia Hynes and brother Dean Chamberlain.
