Helen was my aunt who lived a couple of minutes away just around the corner from us. I will never forget the time I went into premature labor with our daughter. To my surprise, Aunt Helen showed up at my front door to babysit our then 2 year old son, while I went to the hospital to deliver. She will be deeply missed

Helen and I grew up together and were as close as sisters. While Helen was technically my aunt, I was actually slightly older than her. When we started working, we actually shared an apartment together to save a few dollars. I actually had the good fortune to introduce Helen to her future husband Frank. We remained close our entire lives.

To the Loiars family, we were so very sad to hear of your Mom and Grandma's passing. Such a terrific lady and so giving. Your parents were like aunt and uncle, we had known them so long. It was nice to reconnect with her as a customer at our estate sales and we were honoured to help with her home when she moved to be with family.Helen was a positive person and we were blessed to know her may your memories be sweet. Sincerely, John and Cheryl Urtel

Aunt Helen was one of the kindest humans I’ve ever known. I grew up knowing I was deeply loved by her and my Uncle Frank even though in-person visits were few and far between. As a child, I often spoke to Helen on the phone and would hear stories about how her and the family were doing. She always made the effort to call and to be apart of my life (and my Nana’s life) which meant the world to both of us. On top of being an incredibly loving woman, Helen was so thoughtful and so generous. Without fail I always received a Birthday and Christmas card from Aunt Helen and Uncle Frank —which a lot of times included a check for $25. :) Her return address sticker and her handwriting will forever be engrained in my memory. I am so happy that she lived a wonderful full life and she took her last breath surrounded by loving family. Although she will be missed, I find peace knowing she is finally reunited with her husband, Frank and her sister-in-law, Catherine.

Sorry to be reading this, in a way. Just feeling selfish I guess. I was not home for long last summer and lost touch. There will be a memorial here in Durham and I trust you are all at peace with it now. Doc
