Obituary of Elmer H. Walter
Elmer H. Walter passed away August 23, 2023 at the Weinburg Campus in Amherst. Born January 4, 1928 in Amherst he was the son of Elmer C. and Susanna B. (Allenbach) Walter. He graduated from Tonawanda High School Class of 1946, and served in the US Army from 1950 to 1951. Elmer started working at Wurlitzer, then Westinghouse, Harrison Radiator, and retired from Allied Chemical in Tonawanda where he was the traffic manager. He also retired from Niagara County Social Services in 1995 and served as the Pendleton Town Clerk from 1963 to 1973.
Elmer was a an active member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He also was a 70 year member of the Wendelville Volunteer Fire Company from 1953 to 2023, a 64 year member of the Niagara Lodge #375, and served as past president of Niagara County Volunteer Fireman Association. Elmer was also a member of the Pendleton Veterans Association, Past President Wendelville Benevolent Association, Pendleton Historical Society, Pendleton Senior Citizens, and the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery Association. He enjoyed trains and was an avid sportsman hunting, fishing, and trapping.
Elmer is survived by his wife Jane K. (Wagner) Walter; sons Mark E. (Beverly), David R. (Susan), and Craig D. (Colleen); grandchildren Kristen (Kyle), Nicholas (Ashley), Lauren (Kris), Brandon (Giselle), and Anita (Douglas); great grandchildren Olivia, Blakely, Averie, and soon to be Kayce James; sister-in-law Dorothy Walter; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Norman and sister Alice (late Richard) Greaney.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, August 28th from 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 29th at 10 AM at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 7416 Campbell Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120. In lieu of flowers donations to the church or Wendelville Vol. Fire Co. Fire Police Equipment, 7340 Campbell Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120 would be appreciated by the family.
