Please accept our deepest sympathies from our recent new home in Albuquerque upon the recent loss of Matt. Both of us knew him at different points in our lives-- he as my student and Nancy in her days as an RN. Our prayers are for all of you as you comfort yourselves in the memories of all he meant to you.

Mrs Kiff & Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Matt's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Matt at Albion Correctional Facility. He was a great officer and had a pleasant personality. I was the Superintendent at Albion and I wish I had dozens of officers like Matt. I could always count on him. We were going through an accreditation process which can be very labor intensive. During a round of the facility Matt volunteered to help out however he could. Well I took him up on his offer and he worked very hard with the Fire and Safety Officer preparing for our audit. That was the kind of person he was. One funny story I will share. I was again making facility rounds and went into the dorm Matt was working. He had this funny look on his face. I asked what was up? He said "Boss I got busted" I said what do you mean? Well as you very well Matt loved cars. He explained that he has these cars on coasters in the huge garage. He bought another one and put it in the garage. You came out in the garage and said."I see you got another one" He tried to explain it away but...as Matt said...he got BUSTED..He was a great person.

when you talked to Matt You imediately knew his priorities in life. His deep love and devotion to his family, his dedication and service to his community and others and being a trusted and loyal friend. later it went to include immense courage and a great sence of faith. humble men Never know their worth because because they expect nothing in return but you can see in these last couple days that Mathew was rich beyond measure. our last conversation you said “Mikey I’m at peace and Have no regrets” his strength and dignity and love of life is an example for all men to follow. I love you brother and will miss you more than you’ll ever know. Rest In Peace my friend

Matt you are gone but are missed bye so many including myself but in the end you won the fight and are free doing some of the things you love to do. Ill never forget forget all the things you have done for me. The times you use take me to do things when i was a little kid. To the gun raffles we use to go to from time to time. To all the hours on the phone together regardless of who called who. This is a goodgye for now but you will never be forgotten. I love you

I first met Matt in Shawnee Drum Corps. He was a hard working, motivated member. We became friends over the summers...Matt had quite a sense if humor.
We got re-aquainted with the advent of Facebook, and I am thankful for finding him. I just texted him last week, asking how he was ...he said, oh, just a cough, gotta rest.....that's it....
Matt, you'll be missed by family and your numerous friends....your smile was contagious and will be missed....God has indeed gained a great guy!

When we ran into each other a couple of years ago after what seemed like a lifetime of missing out on each other's company, I was shocked to find out that there was someone else in our graduating class besides me who had cancer. We started our friendship back up again, and you became my hero. I always thought it was funny that I would tell you that you were my hero and your response was always "You're my hero too!" I am not sure what you meant, but it always brought a smile to my face. I guess we will not get that last lunch in or get the chance to chat anymore. Thank you for giving me hope, Matt. And now you deserve to be at peace. RIP my friend.

Because Matt trusted Jesus as his Savior, we know that we will see him again someday. We are broken-hearted in our loss because we love Matt so much but we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We are confident that he is now in Heaven enjoying his eternal home. Through God's endless mercy and grace we can be comforted and comfort others. If you knew Matt you loved him. He was ceaselessly kind, loyal, optimistic and ready to help anyone. He loved his family passionately and was a remarkable uncle and brother-inlaw, really a brother, for over 30 years. Our family was so very blessed to have him, we are better because of him , will miss him deeply and look forward to being reunited with him again one day.

Matt was a very dear friend of mine . I was so lucky to be able to work with. Sometimes, I worked 8-16 hours a day, 4-5 days a week with him. He became family to me and many others at work. We talked about everything...from Marcia, who was the love of his life, to everyone one of his kids..and the sparkle of his eyes ...were his grandchildren. When Matt was diagnosed with cancer, he faced that awful disease head on and was determined he was going to beat it...I sure am going to miss him. Sending love to his entire family ....
