Sherry Ann Sansone (nee Reggentine) passed away on October 29, 2010, after a brief illness. She was born in Lockport, NY on March 3, 1958. She is survived by her husband, Marc Sansone, her brother Carl Reggentine and her sister Jody Barry (Steven), all of Lockport, mother Sandra Barnes (Edward) of Thousand Oaks California, and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Duane Reggentine (Wilma).
Sherry served her country with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force from 1980 to 1992. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri State University in 1985. She then obtained her Masters of Science degree in Education from Missouri State University in 1988. Sherry was a fifth grade teacher at Charles A. Upson Elementary School. She was the proud teacher of hundreds of elementary school students, with a career that spanned over twenty years. Sherry's passion for teaching reached all the way to the stars in the NASA Teachers in Space Program, for which she was honored by Donald Rumsfeld at the Pentagon for her participation in that program. She was recognized by her school district for her participation in the S'Cool science curriculum. In 2004, she was voted the Bizworld Teacher of the' Year.
Combining her patriotism and love of teaching, Sherry coordinated the Partners in Patriotism Program, culminating every Veteran's Day in student lead poetry readings at Outwater Park. Her students also participated in the SOS or Save Our Soldiers project, writing letters to active duty service people here and abroad. The proceeds from the publication of these letters were donated to disabled veterans charities. Sherry coordinated sending needed supplies to soldiers overseas. Sherry was also actively involved in collecting food and other donations for the Salvation Army.
