Kathleen Margaret Quirk passed away on February 12, 2018 after fighting a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Lockport, N.Y. on March 2, 1966, she is the daughter of Mary Rose (nee Ginty) Quirk and the late James T. Quirk. Kathleen is survived by her mother Mary Rose Quirk and her siblings, Molly Quirk Cort, Joseph (Jennifer) Quirk, James F. Quirk, Robert W. Quirk (Jackie), Joanne Quirk Doyle, Peter J. Quirk, Anne (Kevin) Pollock and Jacqueline Quirk Kelley (Kevin). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Kathleen attended SUNY Oswego and earned a Communications degree with a minor in Anthropology, and earned a Masters degree in applied Anthropology from American University. She cared about the oppressed, championed fairness, equality and advocated for underserved populations. Her field of expertise was in the public health arena and she managed community grant programs for a variety of organizations and foundations in , DC and San Francisco, CA. She retired from her career in 2011 from AIDS United, a foundation in D.C. where she was instrumental in furthering the reach and implementation of AIDS prevention programs through community-based organizations nationwide. Kathleen had a large network of friends from a variety of backgrounds. She enjoyed travel, cooking , jazz music and spending time with her extended family. She had an infectious smile and laugh and was sassy, kind and tenacious. Friends may call on Thursday 4-7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Online Condolences atwww.pruddenandkandt.com.
