Dear Caridi Family,
I am grieving with you all over the recent loses to your family. Joe and Mary were the epitome of hard working, loving, caring, and respected members of the community. Living on Lincoln ave. Joe's Market was where I would ride my bike to pick up a loaf of bread for my mom or a piece of candy for me. I would be planning the whole ride there how I would spend my nickle or my pennies. Upon arriving the candy selection would be so overwhelming that it would take what seemed forever to decide on my selections. I was around 7 years old and seemingly experienced to the world. Joe would say "come on" as he tried to hurry me, but Mary had more patience and would say " take your time." When I was a little older, and attending Emmet Belknap, walking down Grant street to go to Joe's for lunch was the "hip" thing to do. I today believe Joe invented the "personal pizza" and those days I would get one if I had an extra dollar. I could never wait for it to cool down and would usually burn the roof of my mouth from the hot cheese as it was made to order. As time went by I would see less of the store but I would run into Joe and Mary around the city and every time I would get a wonderful greeting which always came with their beaming smiles. Smiles that I will never forget. I feel blessed to have known these two amazing people and will cherish the memories of them always.

We had the pleasure of meeting Joe and Mary as teenagers at their store. They were both so kind and Joe always had an extra piece of candy for you or a bit of conversation at the counter waiting for that famous sub. They were such a staple in that neighborhood. We wouldn't cross paths again until 2 1/2 years ago when my husband and myself moved in next door to this wonderful couple. They remembered us from the old neighborhood and welcomed us with opens arms to our new neighborhood. He loved to talk about his family and ours. Joe would make us laugh. Baked goods were often traded for Joe's special stock of wine. But what was most important was the time we shared with each other. His wonderful stories, adorable smile and kindness will never be forgotten. We could never ask for a better next door neighbors. Joe told me last week he may not see me again and he expressed his love when he said goodbye to me for the last time. We will truly miss both Mary and Joe but we know Joe is where he wanted to be, with the love of his life, Mary. To Annette, Joe, Anthony and their families, our deepest condolences to you all and thank you for sharing your mom and dad with us. It was a privilege. Love Randy, Susie and family.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. I remember coming home from school and stopping at the store to get a slice of pizza. Joe was a great guy and treated everyone the same. With respect.

We all know that as time goes by we age and lose individuals who are very dear and close to us, Mr. & Mrs. Caridi are two of these people who leave me with a heavy heart and a sense of loss. Growing up and moving into our new neighborhood from the west end, we were welcomed at Joe's by these loving and caring people every time we went into the store. Many hours spent at what we called jipper Joe's, hanging out, eating subs, soda & candy. the Foosball tables and other games that would follow. Closing my eyes I still picture the place and Joe's big smile. Years later leaving for the service, I would stop when I was home and go into Joe's but it was different,I would get a huge hug from Mrs.Caridi and Joe. I always tried to call Joe, Mr. Caridi growing up but he would cut you short, saying it's Joe, you call me Joe. Mr. Caridi was a man who set the tone on how you should treat an individual, together they were such beautiful people and now they rejoin each other. Without realizing it Mr. & Mrs. Caridi were our mentors growing up, showing us the values of hard work, dignity and integrity, family and love for those around us. I feel very blessed to have known them and to have learned from them, may they rest in peace. My thoughts go out to Joe, Annette, Anthony and the rest of the family during this very difficult time.

It is with a heavy heart that I send these condolences. We lived across the street from Joe's Locust Street Market and I distinctly remember when Joe and Mary first took over the store. My dad was in the Dairy business and he helped Joe with many of his purchases and always made sure Joe had enough milk on hand. Joe loved the children of the neighborhood and always remembered the names of all of his customers. Joe, Mary and their children added another dimension to our little neighborhood and I feel blessed to have lived near them. I offer these condolences on behalf of my departed parents, Jack and Pat Castle, as well for my departed brother Tom. Tim and Tina Castle, Panama City Beach, FL.
