Hello Linda, Rob and Joni, Coming in late as I found out recently about your dads passing. So very sorry for the loss. Your dad was such a good and patient sole. Last summer our class of '78/77/76 youth group had a 3 day reunion in Huntington (Skip, Bill Mandrona, Paul Banks the list went on) during which time our antics during youth group events and trips was more than the topic of many fond memories and laughter. Your dad and mom put up with so much - what role models of Christian life difficult to live up to. In speaking with Rodger Giacomini and Jon and Charlene Seymor, they summed up by saying that those years in youth group- your mom and dad, shaped us in very positive ways (whether we ever stopped to recognize or not) and for that I will always hold a very special place in my heart. For the past 15+ years I have directed or supported our parish youth group (Caroline Church Setauket) with many of the same activities we did in '77- go figure.
Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of John. Please say hello to your mom for me.
Blessings
Mark

I was very saddened to learn of John’s passing. My deepest Sympathy goes out to the entire Stevenson family. Although John has left this earthly world to be with our Lord, his legacy will live on in each and every one of us who had the privilege and honor to have known this beautiful spiritual person. John may you rest in peace. As a Christian I look forward to seeing you once again in our life to come in the presence of our Lord Jesus and all of your other children of God that you gave so freely of yourself to over your lifetime through the church, work, and some folks know to you alone. You made a difference and a positive impression on so many of us who looked up to you as we grew into our adult lives. As our Lord and Savior would put it best “Well done my faithful Servant”.
With My Love and Respect Always,
Roger

John and Betty Stevenson made possible a wonderful time in my life, and the life of many others. I loved the EYC and cherished it at the time - but I did not realize until much later how truly rare an experience it was. We learned a lot about faith and fellowship and service, all of which he and Betty personified. A life well lived.

Dear Betty and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of John 's passing. I greatly admired John as Linda, Rob and Joanie's Dad, as youth leader, as church treasurer, loyal choir member, brilliant engineer, and as my boss at UL for years. He was truly a wonderful human being and he had quite an influence on my life. He offered me the job at UL which provided me with vast experiences, new friendship and health insurance which got me through years of serious medical problems. My sincere condolences to all of you.

I was saddened by the news of Mr. Stevenson’s passing and send my heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Stevenson and the Stevenson family. Mr. Stevenson was a special man who touched countless lives. If we’re lucky in life, we meet somebody who teaches us just by existing; Mr. Stevenson was such a person. I had the privilege of experiencing his kindness, positive attitude, and boundless energy during my four years in EYC at Saint John’s. Whether we were on an adventure such as a canoe trip down the Delaware or excursion to Boston, doing a service project like cleaning Camp DeWolfe, or just getting together for a progressive dinner or other fun activity, he was always there, with Mrs Stevenson at his side, providing us with a safe, positive place to explore and grow. Thank you for everything and rest in peace, Mr. Stevenson.

We and the Stevenson families were both neighbors and friends, and John & Howard were colleagues at UL for more than 40 years. For more than 15 years, we traveled together on the Jersey Central railroad and ferries to New York City; good weather and bad. John had a reputation at UL as and excellent engineer and the person to go to for help and advice. We spent three days together with other engineers at exams for a Professional Engineering Certificate. John and I were the only ones in the UL group to pass all five parts of the exam. John's work on research problems was invaluable, and served as input for many American National Standards. He was also responsible for the instruction of computers to perform tests instead of the laborious and time-consuming hand labor.
We know it will be hard for the family to adjust, but their faith will make it a bit easier. Our thoughts are with them at this time. Joan & Howard.

Linda, Rick, Cindy, Betty, and Family,
We are so saddened to hear that John passed away. He was such a sweet and gentle person and we looked forward to seeing him in church each week. He loved and adored Betty so much. Each time they stood up in church to sing or to pray, he always, always had his arm around her lovingly. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace and watch over us.

A wonderful man--with a wonderful family--in every way. Hard to imagine a better blend of generosity, humor, diligence, and faith than we found in Mr. Stevenson. So many of us were lucky to have him as our leader in EYC at St. John's. When his last left for college, he and Mrs. S stayed on to keep the operation going. It was always great to see him around my sister Claire's home in later years. Thanks for everything. Rest in peace.

My dear Stevenson family friends, I'm in deep thought contemplating the many ways in which John influenced me for the better and my sympathies are with you tonight. Even the prior passing of my own parents doesn't entirely prepare me for the death of one of their close friends, especially one who reached down and touched me in so many ways. There's an email chain going around this evening amongst many former EYC'ers who I know share my strong feelings of love and appreciation for the opportunity we were given under the guidance of John and Betty to form such deep and lasting bonds, doing, doing, doing, with seemingly inexhaustible support. My family's close association with John has continued for so many years that I have imagined him to be eternal. Even today, as a scoutmaster, I think of John as a role-model in organizing wholesome activities where teenagers can be doers in constructive ways, just as much as my own scoutmaster has been a role-model. Thanks Saint John!!!

We are deeply saddened to hear about Mr.Stevenson's passing. He was an intricate part of our growing up - showing us how to be the very best person, giving so much of himself wIth all his contributions to St. John's. From camping , shooting the raids, cleaning Camp DeWolfe, and so very many special moments that made us treasure our youth. Never-mind all the years of dedication serving as Treasurer, giving freely of his talent, time and treasure.
Our prayers are with all of you during this difficult time, Mr. Stevenson was dearly loved!
