'Toutes mes condoléances' to all those who grieve with me at the passing of my Uncle Bob. And to Uncle Bob, I rejoice that you are in your new home. I love and appreciate you for the interest and investment that you made in the lives of your siblings’ children, I being one of those beneficiaries.I remember:- that you taught me a formula to determine the day of the week on which any date in history, or the future, lands,- Saturday quizzes despite Grandma’s pleas, “Oh, Bob, let her be. It’s not a school day.” I remember telling her either, “That’s ok Grandma” or “Yeah Bob, it’s not a school day,”- having learned to use an abacus,- Scrabble, even though I recall only one win on my part,- one dreadfully unsuccessful science fair project for which you never escaped blame,- your assisting with my choice of profession,- that you liked to walk the towpath with my dalmatian, Aileron, when we came home for a visit.Though the formula is forgotten, the abacus could no longer assist my calculations, and I never had much success with the science fairs, the heart with which the knowledge was imparted will not be forgotten. My favorite photo of us, taken at the department store, is with you as Santa Claus and I, about 10 years old, wearing my absolute all time favorite, dark green winter coat with the fur collar. Thank you for:• challenging my mind,• the joy you showed at having a willing mind to challenge,• modeling the joy of continual education… to never stop learning,• the fabulous rolls you used to bake,• loving my dog,• lunch at the café in the Bewley building the last we were together, and• your interest in my travels to Congo… and wanting to come with me. I love you,Your niece,Susan
