Dear Linda, Brian, and the extended Gardell family, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share a touching moment that occurred today while speaking with my mother on the phone. She is currently navigating the challenges of mid-stage Alzheimer's and often reminisces about her past, especially the places and people who have had a significant impact on her life. Today, being St. Patrick's Day, our conversation took a heartwarming turn as she fondly recalled her time in Lockport, NY, and, more specifically, her piano lessons with your mother, Mrs. Lois Gardell. For over 30 minutes, my mother spoke with admiration and affection about Lois. She reminisced about how Lois was not just a remarkable piano teacher but also a kind and gentle soul who never made her feel scared or discouraged, even when mistakes were made. She proudly told me that whenever anyone asked who her piano teacher was, she would say with a smile, "Mrs. Gardell." After listening to my mother reminisce, I am touched by her fond memories of your mother and her dedication to music and teaching. Her talent and enthusiasm for music left a lasting impact on many lives including my mother's. Please know that today, Lois's legacy was celebrated and remembered with great fondness. I grew up in the 50's & 60's listening to Mrs. Gardell play the piano at the Alliance church. It was like Heaven listening to her make the hymns come alive as her fingers flew across the keyboard. Though I left Lockport many years ago, I have often thought of her when I would hear other pianists play. She was a blessing in my life.

Linda, Brian and family, your Mom was such a wonderful Christian woman, who led me to Jesus Christ when I was around 12 yrs old. It was during a piano lesson when she told me that Jesus could change my life. She had such a powerful influence on my Christian walk, and was always such an encouragement to me and my family. I loved her dearly, and cannot wait to see her again in heaven. You were so blessed to have her, and I am sure the last few years have not been easy. Mrs. Gardell was my Mother's piano teacher (Clara Benedict), and taught my aunt, my sisters and brother, and many many friends. Some of her last students were my nieces Jena and Cristi. I will always remember Mrs. Gardell, my piano teacher, in Lockport, NY. I would walk from my home on Cherry St. to her home on High St. where there were not just one, but 2 baby grand pianos filling the room in which she taught. With her guidance, I became a pianist who proudly mastered Rachmaninoff's "Polichinelle" and performed it as my senior recital piece. I have always loved Rachmaninoff since she introduced me to his work. One of my greatest pleasures was playing music for 2 pianos with her. I was thrilled when she chose me to play a Ferrante and Teicher piece with her for my senior recital as well. She was so gifted and passionate about piano and I am forever thankful for her gift to me. I saw her the last time at Briody's 2 years ago when my father was also a resident there. She lived a long life and brought joy to so many people. May she now make music in heaven for eternity.
