Obituary of Greta Shuart

Please share a memory of Greta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Greta E. Shuart, 77, of Lockport, NY went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Niagara Hospice with her family by her side. Greta was born in Lockport on May 14, 1932 to Walter C. Humphreys Sr. and Luella Mae Tothill Humphreys. Greta loved the several years she spent as a kindergarden teacher in the area, but gladly gave that up to be a mother & homemaker for the children of her first marriage to Gordon H. Bald of Lockport and the step daughters from her second marriage to John F. Shuart, who predeceased her in January of this year. By virtue of her big & open heart, many of her children's friends found a second home in Greta's house, as did many a stray dog or cat. She is survived by her brother Walter C. (Carol) Humphreys, Jr. of Lockport; her children David D. (Anne) Bald, Deborah R. (Terrence P.) Gallagher, and Robert G. (Diana) Bald all of Lockport, and Susan M. (Peter) Marion, MD, of Omaha, Nebraska; her step-daughters Davene (Louis) Noto, and Diane (Dale) White; her grandchildren Carly and Nicholas Corriere, Rain Bald, Nathaniel D. Gallagher, Elizabeth M. (Benjamin) Chesko, Andrew J. Gallagher, Kyle P. (Brittany) Gallagher, Gordon (Sheri`) Bald, Nichaela Bald, Austin Bald, Lee Marion, and Dean Marion; great-grandchildren Kalina & Cardan Scott, Jesse Wilkins, and Destiny and Drake Bald. And by many others who considered her to be a Mom or Grandma. In addition to her love for all her many "children" & pets, Greta would often be seen at the Senior Center for Bingo, or finding great deals at local estate or garage sales. These treasures would then often find homes with her children & grandchildren. She found great comfort & peace during the summertime down at her cottage on Lake Ontario. Greta attended Lockport's First Baptist Church for most of her life, and also attended Victory Christian Church from time to time with her family in her later years. She was a lifetime PTA Life Achievement Award recipient (the highest honor from the nation's largest child advocacy organization), belonged to the Niagara County Historical Society, the Genealogical Society, and supported the local Save-A-Pet. Calling hours for her family and many friends will be held on Thursday, April 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY 14094. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 10, 2010 at 11 AM, at Victory Christian Church, 6886 S. Transit Rd., Lockport, NY 14094. Private interment at Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials appreciated to Niagara Hospice or Save-A-Pet.
