Merle Arthur Sechler, 84, of Lockport passed away at his residence on Saturday August 13, 2016. He was the son of the late James Arthur Sechler and Cora Diller Sechler of Somerset, NY. Merle was born in Somerset Corners at the Cobblestone house. Merle loved to travel and camp. His favorite source of work growing up was farming, he told many stories about his childhood. Merle belonged to the Niagara County Auxiliary Police for 35 years and held most offices and was the Chief upon his retiring. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #825 and Moose #716. Merle worked at Norton's Manufacturing and retired from General Motors in 1988 after 35 years. Merle is survived by his wife Janet Sechler (Kidney) married 63 years, his son Clarence (Eveline) Sechler Sr., and his grandchildren, Katherine (Adam) Hudson, Clarence Sechler Jr. (Wendy Turton), Christopher Sechler and James Sechler (Heather Yingling). Several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and great grandchildren to 5, Anthony, Mason, David, Christina and Aeribella. Friends may call Tuesday August 16, 2016, 11 AM until 1 PM, where services will immediately follow at 1 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.
