David Edward Laufer of Lockport, New York passed away surrounded by the love of his family on January 11, 2016. He was born June 29, 1932 to Harry and Rose (Sackel) Laufer. A loving and devoted husband, David was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Mary Ellen (Ryan). David is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After that, he worked for the Niagara Power Project and Simon's Steel Mill. He then went on to work for 30 years as a serviceman at Harrison Radiators. He enjoyed spending time with his large family, working around his house, and cheering for the Yankees, Bills, and Sabres. David is survived by his 5 children, Jacinta (Edward) Shipley, Mary Margaret (Robin) Ritz, Ellen (Peter) Strobel, Martin Laufer, and Lisa (William) Moeller. He was the beloved grandfather of Katie (Christopher) Reith, Erin (Michael) and Brian Shipley, Kari (Raymond) Webster, Thomas Ritz, Megan, Ryan, Nathan (Madeline), Bradley, and Noah Strobel, and Kayla, Erika, and Jillian Moeller. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Stella Calos and Cole Webser. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan and brother, Harry (Patricia) Laufer. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, January 13 from 4-8 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where prayers will be offered Thursday, January 14 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. John the Baptists R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials made in David's name to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated by the family.
