Obituary of Susie Turner

Please share a memory of Susie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susie Bernice Turner, born April 20, 1929 in Savannah, Georgia, entered into rest peacefully at home on Saturday, April 11, 2015. She was one of three living children born to Tiny Belle and William Henry Turner. She lived in Savannah until her teenage years and attended both elementary and high school there. In 1950 she moved to Albion, New York where she obtained work at Sylvania and worked there for approximately 22 years. After moving to Lockport, New York she united with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and worshiped there until her death. Bernice was very proud that her son, Robert, was also an active member of Friendship and served as a Deacon. She felt it was an honor that she could serve as an usher at Friendship. She also helped in the Church kitchen and delighted in preparing meals for special days and events. Her specialties were macaroni and cheese, dressing and cornbread. Many who ate her Banana Pudding declared that it was known as being the best in Lockport. Bernice worked for many years for Kaleida Home Health Agency as a home health care giver. Each morning she would get up at 5:00 a.m., prepare her breakfast, sit at her kitchen table and read the Holy Bible before leaving for work. She took a special pride in providing loving care for those in need and continued caring for others until she was well into her senior years. Bernice also had a special place in her heart for little children. In recent years she experienced joy from the visits made to her home by two little neighbor girls, "Juju and Lady Bug". They never stayed long, but they always brought smiling faces and big hugs. Over the years Bernice took an interest in children whom she befriended from their childhood into adulthood. She became the person they could depend on, respect, and be assured that she loved them unconditionally. There are family members and friends of Bernice who remain and who will cherish her memory her son and his wife, Robert and Sylvia Turner, her brother and his wife, Bobby and Patsy Turner, her oldest surviving cousin, Merle Bacon, nieces Deborah McClendon, Carla Favors, Cynthia Davis and Comaceda Brown, grandchildren Comaceda Turner, Cylina Gumbs, Mitchell Gumbs and Delyha Woods, along with many, many cousins and special friends.
