Obituary of Michael J. Flaherty

Peacefully at home, Mike passed away on October 3, 2014. He was born May 24, 1945 to John (Jack) and Jean Flaherty. He was married on April 20, 1968 to his best friend, high school sweetheart, and love of his life, the late Diane I. Flaherty. Mike was a devoted father to Michael (Rich Wartinger) and Joseph (Terri). No grandfather was loved more or gave as much love to his treasured grandchildren, Patrick and Benjamin, as Mike.
Mike was the cherished brother of James (Andrea) Flaherty of Canton, CT and Ann (David) Smith of Lockport. He was the much-loved brother-in-law of Michael (Julie) Landrigan of Arlington, VA. and Thomas (Diane) Landrigan of Bowling Green, KY. Mike also leaves behind his cousin, Tom Markley, who was more like a brother and best friend. In addition, Mike will be fondly remember for his wit and sarcasm by his nieces and nephews.
Mike was a SUNY Cortland graduate and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. In the early 70's, Mike was the arena director of the Kenan Arena and sat on its Board of Directors as well. From 1979-1985, Mike was co-owner of All Pro Sports. Mike went on to work for 20 years as a caseworker for Niagara County Dept. of Social Services, retiring in 2005. Mike was also a former member of the Lockport Rotary Club. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing both baseball, basketball, tennis, and softball in his younger years. Mike took great joy in going to sporting and school events for his grandsons.
The family will receive friends at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY on THURSDAY, October 9, 2014 from 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on FRIDAY, October 10, 2014 at 12 PM, at All Saints, Lockport, NY. The family would welcome memorials made in Mike's name to the Make- A- Wish Foundation.

The family will receive friends at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY on THURSDAY, October 9, 2014 from 4-8PM.
<h3>Services</h3>
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on FRIDAY, October 10, 2014 at 12 PM at All Saints, Lockport, NY.
<h3>Interment</h3>
Interment in Cold Spring Cemetery.
