Obituary of Frank Sposito

Frank Sposito passed away January 25, 2013 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born September 2, 1925 in Lockport he was the son of Christ and Carmela (LoBue) Sposito. Frank was a WW II veteran. He was drafted and trained in Louisiana and started his tour with the 49th AIB in Tidworth, England on November 20, 1944. As a private First Class he traveled through Totes, France; Reins; Luvigney; Luxemburg; Sibbe; Reutje; Wofenbuttel and Derenburg and finally Rokycany, Czechoslavakia on June 5, 1945. Frank was wounded on February 25, 1945 in Vento, Belgium. Suffering two mortar wounds, one piece was imbedded in his skull and doctors did not risk taking it out. He returned to action two weeks later on March 11th in Holland. Frank served with Company B of the 49th Armored Infantry Battalion, values his Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge, he fired an M-I rifle and machine gun.
Frank worked as a machine repairman and was an active union leader at both Norton's Laboratory and Harrison's Radiator. He was married for 62 years to the late Rose (Vitone) Sposito who passed away August 10, 2012. Frank enjoyed golf, bowling, bocce, owned and trained harness horses and playing pinochle. He was a member of the Lockport Sunrise Optimist Club and a life member of the Disabled American veterans.
Frank was the brother-in-law of Marge Sposito, Martha Alexander, Jane Sposito, Joan (Brian) White, Kay Sposito, Theresa Buczkowski, Frances Golanka, Anna Curie and the late Rose, Nellie, Sam, Christ, David, William and Daniel; and also several nieces and nephews including, Christ (Mary) Sposito, Robert (Sharon) Sposito, Brian Reed, Wanda (Dennis) Kazinski, Brenda Brown, Alice Polasky, Marge Sposito, Francine (Dan) McCarthy, Louann Enzinna and Marge Parsons and many others.
There will be no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, February 16th at 2 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.
