Obituary of Chester Berner

Chester J. "Chet" Berner passed away suddenly September 30, 2012 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born July 6, 1937 in Lockport he was the son of Elton and Sylvia (Latch) Berner. Chet served in the NYS National Guard for 23 years and was honored with Soldier of the Year in 1971. He worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service and retired after for 42 1/2 years where he was in the finance department retiring on May 1, 1999 and also at Value Home Center for 15 years in the evenings where he was the night manager. Chet was a Mason belonging to the Red Jacket Lodge, Niagara Lodge of Perfection, Lockport Shrine, Ishmaelea, Dale Association - Woodworkers and the Lockport Alliance Church where he was a past deacon, trustee and also served in many other areas. Chet was on the landscape committee for Lockhaven and was a also a gifted woodworker. Chet is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Carolyn (Miller) Berner of Lockport. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son David Paul Berner and two brothers Robert and Douglas Berner. Chet is also survived by his special sister-in-law Barbara Maynard-Moon of Lockport, niece Jennifer Lynn (Robert) Beats and Scott Berner, and great niece and nephew Andrea and Joshua Beats. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
