Obituary of Robert Simmons

Robert C Simmons Sr., age 78 of Lockport, NY, passed away September 30, 2012 after a long illness. Robert was born on March 31, 1934 in Lockport, NY. He was the son of the late Fred and Ella (Wadsworth) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons served in the United States Army from 1951- 1954 and served 2 years with the 5th Armored Division in Korea and was awarded several medals including the Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and worked at Simonds Saw and Steel Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a school crossing guard for the Lockport Police Department for several years.
Preceded in death by his wife and mother of their children Marjorie (Trude) Simmons, second wife Irene (Brown) Simmons, daughter Kim M. (Simmons) Brodsky, sister Ruth E. Clark, and three grandsons, Joseph R. Murphy, Jason P. Murphy, and Curt H. Simmons Jr. Mr. Simmons is survived by his children, Roxanne (Joseph) Murphy of Lockport, NY, Robert "Buster" (Teresa) Simmons, Jr. of Florida, Curt (Tina) Simmons, Sr. of Lockport, NY and Tina (Jack) Jordan of Lockport, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Phillip DiVincenzo, Mellissa Murphy, Matthew and Valerie Simmons, Jennifer (Jason) Seib, Ian Jordan, and Charlene (Anthony) Turk. Mr. Simmons took great pride in his seven great grandchildren, Andrew Murphy, Natallie and Grace Seib, Madison Hessell, Meah, Marley, and Max DiVincenzo. He is also survived by a sister Sharon Killon as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday 4 to 8 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, Inc., 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 PM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to the V F W Post 2535, 112 Caledonia St, Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.
