Obituary of John Kander

John C. "Jack" Kander, age 79 of Lockport suddenly entered into rest on Saturday September 29, 2012, at Eastern Niagara Hospital. Jack was born October 24, 1932, the son of the late John T. and Eileen (Cunningham) Kander. Jack served in the United States Navy from 1948-1950 and was honorably discharged. He married Ellen M. (Haenle) Kander on May 2, 1964. Jack was employed at Castle's Dairy, Simonds Saw and Steel, and the Niagara County Sheriff's Department. In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, horse racing, and most of all cooking. Husband of Ellen M. Kander, dear father of John C. (Lynn) Kander of Hobe Sound, Florida, Kristopher M. (Kristine) Kander of West Henrietta, NY, loving Papa of Karla, Karyn, Kirby, Jack, and Max Kander, brother-in-law of Michael (Vicki) Haenle and Mark J. Haenle both of Lockport, NY, predeceased by beloved brother and sister-in-law Jack and Marge Haenle. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nephew and cousins; and many, many loving friends. The family will be present on Wednesday, from 3-7p.m. at the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street. A Memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 AM in All Saints R.C. Parish 37 Church St., Lockport. Burial will be at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
