Obituary of Rev. Louis Della Neve

Rev. Louis F. Della Neve passed away September 16, 2012 in Briody Health Care Facility. Born February 25, 1928 in Buffalo he was the son of Rocco and Angelina (Zannella) Della Neve. Fr. Della Neve attended St. Bonaventure where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University. He was ordained on June 7, 1952 in St. Joseph Cathedral by Bishop Joseph A. Burke, D.D. Fr. Della Neve served several assignments throughout the Western New York area starting in 1952 as a Missionary Apostolate at St. Helen's Church in Hinsdale, 1953 was Assistant at St. Lawrence Church, Buffalo, 1954 and 1956-1963 was Assistant at St. Joseph's Church, Niagara Falls, 1955 Assistant at St. James Church, Jamestown, 1963 Assistant at St. John's Church, Jamestown, and 1964-1968 Assistant at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Buffalo. In 1968-1973 he was Pastor of Our Lady of Loreto Church, Falconer and from 1973-1978 he served as Pastor at St. James Church, Jamestown. In 1978 Fr. Della Neve served as Pastor of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Lockport until his retirement in 1998. Throughout his retirement years he would also assist at the other local churches in Lockport until he fell ill.
Fr. Della Neve is survived by his brothers Anthony (Charmaine) Della Neve of New Jersey, Domenick Della Neve of Hamburg and the late Rocco Della Neve; sisters Mary (late Leonard) Szeglowski of West Seneca and Lucy (Jack) Etzel of Maryland; brother �"in-law of Fay Della Neve; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Fr. Della Neve will lie-in-state on Thursday, September 20 from 3-7 PM and Friday, September 21 from 10-11 AM in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM, officiated by Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, Bishop Emeritus of Buffalo. Interment will be private in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, NY. Donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated by the family.
