James E. Hurd, entered into rest at Niagara Hospice on October 19, 2009, at the age of 57.
Born January 31, 1952 in Lockport, New York, he was the son of Bertha (Schultz) Hurd and the late Earl Hurd of Appleton. He graduated from Barker Central School where he enjoyed chemistry, physics, Latin and playing football, basketball and baseball. In 1970 he attended General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan where as part of the co-op program he began work with General Motors. Jim was a systems analyst for General Motors and then Delphi Thermal for 38 years. He married Kim M. Luff September 29, 1979 with whom he enjoyed the next 30 wonderful years of his life. Jim devoted his time to his family and also enjoyed reading history, traveling, photography, camping and tirelessly rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
Jim is survived by his wife and their two children, Eric and Kathryn of Lockport. He also is survived by one grandchild, Sophie Grace Bootes (Eric R.), one sister Mary Ann (Robert) Jepson of Durham, NC, his mother, his brother-in-laws Robert (Patricia) Luff and Richard (Christine) Luff, his sister-in-laws Deborah (Michael) Castle, Mary Kay (Michael) Berhalter, and Tracy (Robert) Forquer and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his father-in-law William (Josephine) Luff and his mother-in-law Beverly (Arthur) Lux.
There will be no prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Lockport First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM. Donations in the name of James Hurd made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, would be sincerely appreciated.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Lockport First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM.
