Obituary of Lewis Wittcop

Lewis John Wittcop passed away May 2, 2012 under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born January 6, 1927 in Gasport he was the son of John William and Estelle Rose (Maynard) Wittcop. Lewis entered the US Army on April 27, 1945 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on December 8, 1946 with the 313th Company C Engineer Combat Battalion Stationed in Europe during WWII. Lewis was employed with Harrison Radiator where he was a truck driver and retired in 1975 after 31 years. He was a member of the Hartland United Methodist Church joining in 1962 to present, member of the Gasport American Legion Post 1253, Hartland Conservation Club, and a member of ABC American Bowling Congress. Lewis enjoyed fishing, was an avid local sports fan, bowling, and was a John Deere Collector.
Lewis is survived by his wife Jean (Bedford) Wittcop of Hartland; father of Terrance Wittcop (Judy) of Hickory NC, Norma Sturtevant (Steven) of Lockport, Elizabeth Seib of Newfane, Laura Werth (John) of Medina, Rodger Wittcop (Carol) of Lockport, Denise Caton of Gasport, Roseann Heitzenrater (Joseph), Brian Wittcop (Sarah) of Gasport, and the late Cheryl Feuersanger (Johann) of Lockport; grandfather of 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; very dear nephew Christopher Wittcop of Gasport; last survivor of thirteen siblings.
Relatives and friends may call Friday 3-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where funeral services will be held Friday evening at 7 PM with the Rev.
