Obituary of Betty Garlock
Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty J. Garlock passed away at Odd Fellow & Rebekah on April 22, 2012. She was born in Cleveland Ohio on July 30,1920, the daughter of Hunter and Eva Allison. In 1941 she married Harold "Gig" Garlock before he left for his military service. Although a lavish wedding had been scheduled plans were abruptly changed when Gig received his draft notice. After the war they settled in Lockport and in 1946 Garlock's Restaurant was opened and still remains a local landmark today.
Betty has belonged to St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport since she settled here. She was an enthusiastic golfer and member of the Lockport Country Club and proudly claimed two holes in one. Betty also bowled with the Country Club membership. An avid bridge player, Betty loved regular games with her friends - the Wednesday and Saturday bridge games were sacred. A long time volunteer with the Red Cross and a member of the Lockport Hospital Guild, Betty also enjoyed organizing antique shows as a fund raiser for DeSates Catholic High School when her children were students there.
Her husband passed away in 1994. Her sister, Mabel Feldman and brother, Edgar Allison predeceased her many years previous.
She is survived by her children Pam Garlock of Lockport and Harold "Buzz" Garlock (Krista) of Tampa Florida and three grandchildren: William Colbey of Rochester, Joseph Sammarco of Chicopee, MA., and Lindsy Garlock of Orlando, Florida. Betty loved spending time with her four great-qtandchildren, Connor, Tyler and Madison Colbey and Gabe Sammarco. She also leaves two nieces and two dear friends, Patricia Rounds and Amy Niethe.
