Shirley R. Conner passed away April 18, 2012 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born January 13, 1923 in Lockport she was the daughter of George and Marion (Thompson) Roberts. She taught briefly for Barker School District and then became reporter for the Tonawanda News where she made a name for herself as a reporter who would dig to get the story covering political meetings and school board meetings winning several awards for her articles. Her hard work paid off by earning a promotion to Managing Editor. Retiring in the late 80's after many years with the News, Shirley entered the political arena and served as a Councilwoman from 1990 to 1991 and Town Supervisor for Pendleton from 1992-1995. Shirley also served on the Starpoint School Board from 1977 to 1981. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and her tractor. Shirley was predeceased by her husband James Conner, who passed away February 4, 1977.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Janine (Richard) Wladkowski of Boston, MA and Coleen Conner of Buffalo. She is the grandmother of Nathan and Joshua Wladkowski.
