Obituary of Adele Truschel
Please share a memory of Adele to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Adele Helene Truschel came to rest on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 with family gathered to pay their respects. Mrs. Truschel was born Adele Helene Hedwig Ventzke on May 3, 1928 in Bobrau, West Prussia. Adele was a woman of extraordinary inner strength and courage who survived wartime destruction of her region, detention in a refugee camp and search for her family.
Adele married Paul Karl Truschel in Enge, Germany in 1951, and immigrated to Halifax, Canada in 1952, eventually settling in N. Tonawanda where they were members of St. John's Lutheran Church. Adele was a dedicated mother to five daughters, and spared no effort to provide for their needs. She placed great emphasis on her daughters' education and in teaching them the handicrafts and practical skills that had sustained her. In 1970 the family moved to Ransomville where Adele was especially talented at nurturing the most fragile creatures and tender plants back to health. She took special joy in the beauty of flowers and the bounty of produce she raised, and was a member of the Ransomville Garden Club. Upon moving to Gasport, neighbors appreciated Adele's flower borders.
A mother to all she met, Adele is survived by two cooks and four gardeners.
Besides her husband Paul, Adele is also survived by her five daughters Rita Truschel of Newark, DE, Doris Edwards of Okeana, OH, Carine Truschel of Gasport, NY, Lilli Hazard of Fishers, IN, and Heidi Truschel of Clayton, DE; grandmother of Kate Edwards, Indianapolis, IN, Sarah Edwards of Kansas City, MO, and Rachel Hazard of Fishers, IN; great grandmother of Hailey Edwards of Indianapolis, IN.
