Obituary of Angelo Fotia

Angelo Fotia, 83, passed away peacefully, with his son, Joseph by his side at Erie County Medical Center on Monday, January 9, 2012. Angelo was born October 9, 1928 in Reggio Calabria, Italy, son of the late Rugerio and Lucia Fotia. He immigrated to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. On a visit to the US he met Rita Conti who was to become his beloved wife, they married on July 24, 1952 in St. Mary's Church in Welland, Ontario, Canada. Shortly after, they made their home in Lockport, he worked at Harrison Radiator and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Angelo enjoyed planting a vegetable garden every year and a small flower garden for his wife. He was a past member of St. Anthony's Holy Name Society and the Lockport Bocce Club. His favorite past time was playing his harmonica, especially Italian folk music and also enjoyed dancing to those same songs. Angelo's prime interest was his family; he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita in August 1990 and his two older brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Fotia.
Angelo is survived by his son Joseph who was his loving companion and caretaker for the last 18 years, and two other sons Roger (Debbie) of Lockport and Mark (Lynn) formerly of Lockport; grandfather of Nicholas, Dominic, Vince, and John Paul; dear sister Angelina Fotia-Gurgo of Vercellie, Italy and dear brother Giovanni (Bianca) Fotia of Reggio Calabria, Italy; also survived by his sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several special, devoted friends.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where prayers will be offered Friday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, 391 Market St., Lockport. Entombment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
