Obituary of Joseph Licata

Joseph Salvatore Licata passed away December 20, 2011 in Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Care Facility, Lockport. Born April 26, 1922 in Lockport he was the son of Salvatore and Carmela (Giglia) Licata. Joseph served in the US Marine Corp from 1942 to 1945 and fought in WW II. He was the president of Licata Brothers Wholesale for 41 years working with his brothers and sister, retiring in 1992. Joseph was also the owner of Quartet Sales and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 319, the Lockport Bocce Club, was a supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital, was an avid downhill skier well into his 60's, and enjoyed gardening.
Joseph is survived by his beloved children Joette G. (Licata) Barnwell of Georgia and Joseph E. (Bridget Whitmore) Licata of Lockport; loving grandfather of Eric, Alyssa Barnwell and Sophia Licata; devoted brother of Louis (late Marian), Lawrence C. (Elaine) and the late Thomas (late Theresa), Salvatore W. (Mary), Carl (late Anna Ruth), Vincent J. (Shirley), Dominic S. Licata and Stella L. (late Nicholas) Rosetti; also several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday 2-4 and 6-9 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where prayers will be offered Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 391 Market St., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery. Donations to the American Heart & Stroke Association or to St. Jude Children's Hospital would be appreciated. Visit www.pruddenandkandt.com.
