Please share a memory of Genevieve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Genevieve E. Cranston, widow of Archie Cranston passed on in her Lockport home under Hospice care Thursday, October 13, 2011. She was wife of the late Archie Cranston and the daughter of Henry and Leapha Neckers of Findley Lake in Chautauqua County, NY. She will be greatly missed by her son and three daughters, William (Pat) Cranston of Ransomville, NY, Carol Cieslik of Lake City, Florida, Linda Cranston of Upper Montclair, N.J. and Kathryn (Cliff) Carlson of Lockport. She is also survived by grandchildren Laura and David Carlson of Lockport, Rich Cieslik and Claire (Chad) Townsend of Lake City, Florida. Also in Florida are her great grand son Jesse Cieslik and great grand daughters, Ava and Gabrielle Townsend. Born on the 4th of July in 1915, Genevieve grew up on a dairy farm in a family of five children. In order to complete high school she boarded in the Village of Findley Lake. During the Depression, she graduated from Fredonia Normal School (now SUNY) and went on to teach in a one room school house near Findley Lake, NY for five years. Three of her students surprised her at her 80th birthday celebration when they themselves were in their 60s. She recognized them, not having seen them since she was their grade school teacher. Genevieve was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and cook, dedicated to well balanced meals and consequently a large vegetable garden, enslaving her children with weeding, canning and freezing. In her later years, she was also well known for providing unsolicited health and medical advice to anyone she felt needed it---all from a caring heart. Genevieve was an accomplished artist of oil painting and enjoyed all kinds of card playing. In her recent years, she took on the luxury of cheating at solitaire. She was very well read with an expert knowledge of word definitions. Genevieve was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lockport since the 1950s, Niagara County Home Bureau, YWCA's 29 and Holding and Dale Association. Relatives and friends may call Sunday 5-9 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 PM. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
