Obituary of Dale Brown

Please share a memory of Dale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Sept. 30, 2011, Dale took his final cruise down the road of life to the "Big Garage in the Sky" after losing a valiant 11-year battle with various cancers. His journey began in Lockport on Oct. 8, 1946 when he became the first son of Blanche & the late Norman Brown. As a teenager, he developed a strong interest in cars and could often be found at the local gas station just down the road from his home. He also worked at various farms in the area as he was growing up. He graduated from Starpoint High School in 1964 & after working at Emil VonDungens & Bert & Bens, he started work at Harrison Radiator until Uncle Sam sent him greetings in 1966. He proudly served in the Army in Alaska until 1968 when he drove his 1962 Corvette home from Alaska. He continued working at Harrison's until 1970 when he turned his hobby into his career & opened West Ave. Service Center in Lockport. In 1975 he built a garage behind his home & started Dale Brown Service of which he was the sole owner/operator of until the time of his death. Beside his family & his business, another love of his life was his '64 Chevy which he and his wife enjoyed taking to many car cruises & shows, winning many awards along the way. Cars, trucks, and just about anything with wheels was his life. Dearly missed by his mother Blanche, he will be sadly & lovingly missed by his wife of nearly 38 years (Oct. 6, 1973) & his soul mate & best friend of 40 years, Sharon (Cottrell) Brown who have been together nearly 24/7 for many, many years. Also cherishing his memory will be his daughters Shelly Archie of Lockport and Cherie (Ernest) Geiman of Virginia, his sons Darryl Brown (Mary Wiedeman) of North Tonawanda and Dana Brown (Jennifer Cherkis) of East Aurora, his grandsons Brandyn and Wyatt Archie of Lockport, Joshua and Jonah Geiman. Dale also leaves behind a brother Ronald (Linda) Brown of Rochester, a brother-in-law Duane (Deborah) Cottrell of Sanborn, an uncle, and many cousins, nieces & nephews. Valued friends & customers will truly miss him including the "Saturday Night Cruisers". His journey ended at home under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Continuing the unselfish way he lived his life, Dale has donated his body to the U.B. Anatomical Gift Program. Come-as-you-are visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday October 5,2011 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where a memorial service will be held immediately following at 7 PM.
