Joan Fox Ames died on September 12, 2011 in the care of Niagara Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 18, 1931, in Medina, NY, daughter of the late James and Irene Fox. Joan was a graduate of the Medina High School class of 1948. She was a resident of the Town of Lockport for the past fifty three years, worked at Bell Telephone, Union Sun & Journal and Lockport City Schools. Joan belonged to St. Brendan on the Lake Church where she was a devoted worshiper and enjoyed the community her parish provided. She was a faithful and loving wife and enjoyed spending time with her family. Joan loved attending her grandchildren's various sporting and school events and was one of their biggest fans. She was a loyal Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees follower. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking and playing cards.
Beloved wife of Robert Ames for 58years, they were married on August 29, 1953 at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Medina, NY. Mother of Sandra (James) Hutchison of Lockport, Judith (Thomas) Moss of Buffalo, Robert Ames of North Tonawanda, and Douglas (Cynthia) Ames of Lockport. Grandmother of Jessica, Lindsey and Brian Hutchison, Amanda (Akeem) Richmond, Kevin and Melissa Hagen, and Matthew and Andrew Ames. Great Grandmother of Mikayla Richmond. Sister of Mary Alice Fox of Medina, NY and James (Theresa) Fox of Lockport, NY.
Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at l0 am at St. Brendan's Church, Ewings Road in Newfane, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Niagara Hospice.
