Seeing this sad news brings a flood of memories. Mr.Monroe was the choir director for 5 members of our family from 1960 through 1975. Each one of us cherish the passion of his love for music and teaching.
He touched scores of students and my life was blessed by his special gifts. I can vividly picture him seated or standing at the piano trying to draw the very best out of each of us.
The musical works that he chose for us imparted a love of haromy and a blending of voices that was both classic and modern. From the "Battle Hymn of the Republic " to "Somebody's Coming"
to a "Jubilant Song" he challenged us in every season. These musical memories are the best gift any instructor ever gave to me.
I pray that his whole family will feel the love that we are sending. May he rest eternally in the arms of our savior.

I have so many wonderful memories of Mr Monroe as my choral director at Lewiston Porter (1971-1974). We spent every lunch with Mr Monroe in his office and supplied him with homemade candy and cookies. He always held us to the highest standards vocally, with confidence in our abilities.
As I continue singing in our church choir, I can still hear his guidance for breath control, vocalization and articulation. I am forever grateful for his guidance and mentorship!

Mr. Monroe was a good man, mentor and friend. Above all, he was a great musician. He created an opportunity for excellence and always coached us to be our very best. His leadership and example during my time in choir made for lasting memories. Thank you Mr. Monroe, you will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Monroe. Some of my favorite memories from Lewport are linked to Mr Monroe and choir. (Even when he called us lunk heads).
