Obituary of Hugh J. McCartney
Hugh J. McCartney passed away December 18, 2024 under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Born February 24, 1938 in Buffalo he was the son of Daniel and Anne (McCurley) McCartney. Hugh served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960. He worked for the United States Postal Service where he was a mail carrier for 33 years retiring in 1996. Family was always #1, Hugh loved his family and going to visit his sister in Maine. Hugh was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Notre Dame.
Hugh is survived by his children Daniel (Amy) McCartney, Patricia (Michael) Darlak, Michael (Michelle) McCartney, Mary (Scott) Nelson, Ann (Sara) Pach-McCartney, and Brian McCartney; grandchildren Andrew, Jolene, Nicholas, Tyler, Colin, Michael, Jennifer, Hannah, Jacob, Christopher, Lillian, Shea, and Isaac; three great grandchildren; sister Sr. Philomena McCartney, O.P. and several extended family and friends. Hugh was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Hunt) McCartney in 2013, daughter Linda Coffey, and sister Theresa Bouchard.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, Dec. 27th from 4-7 PM at Prudden And Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 28th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
