Obituary of Bernard Lawida

Bernard G. Lawida passed away August 10, 2011 in Odd Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Facility. He was born March 13, 1936 in Rochester, NY. The son of the late Walter and Mary (Szulis) Lawida. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Dolores (Herberger) Lawida on August 26, 2006.
Bernard attended Barker Central School and graduated from Erie County Technical Institute. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1962 where he was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class. He worked at New York State Electric and Gas for 36 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of All Saints Parish (formally St. Patrick's R.C. Church), Lockport. He joined the Lockport Knights of Columbus Council 319 in 1981 and was a member of it's 4th Degree Assembly 754, holding many offices in both. Also a member of the Lockport Navy - Marine Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, photography, card playing and an occasional visit to the Casino's. He and his wife enjoyed doing many projects in their home.
Bernard is survived by an Uncle Kasmier Szulis of Medina. Sister-in-Iaws Elizabeth and Vi Herberger of Lockport and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves dear friends Walter and "Cookie" White and Jerry Fischer.
Relatives and friends may call Friday 11 to 1 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM in All Saints Parish at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, 76 Church Street, Lockport. Internment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lockport.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to Ronald McDonald House, 780 West Ferry Street, Buffalo, NY 14222.
