Obituary of Vernon J. Newton
Vernon J. “Joe” Newton passed away on Saturday November 16, 2024 at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Lockport on January 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Vernon and Veronica “Hiense” Mullaney Newton. Joe graduated from. DeSale’s High School, Class of 1955, then went on to serve in the US Army from 1958 until 1960. He retired from Harrison Radiator in 1987 after working for 32 years. After Joe retired he worked for the Lockport Mall where he was Santa and also for the O’Brien children and many others through the years. He was a member of the American Legion, Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Moose and the B.P.O.E., where he served twice as the Exalted Ruler. Joe enjoyed wintering in Florida, woodworking, reading, crosswords and painting artwork.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Patricia (nee Conley) Newton; brother of Virginia Poulter and the late Jay Francis Newton and brother in-law of Rita McCarty. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends may call on Thursday November 21st 4-7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday November 22nd, at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
