Obituary of Wilfred G. Harrington, Jr.
Wilfred “Bill” George Harrington, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024 in Lockport, NY. Born November 17, 1942 in Medina, NY to Wilfred George Harrington, Sr. and Emily Irene Minor. He was last of eight children and grew up on a farm with plenty of chores, animals, pets and older siblings to tease. He graduated from Newfane Central High- Go Panthers.
Bill followed his two older brothers and joined the Air Force. He was excited to see the world. One of the first places he was stationed at, was Niagara Falls and he commuted home. He was able to visit many places in Europe, Libya and the US.
While stationed in England, he met his dear wife, Katherine Elizabeth Strand, who he was devoted to. She was the only one for him. They were married on January 15, 1972 in Mildenhall, England. Bill and Kathy were later sealed in the London, England Temple. They had four children – achieving perfection on the fourth one.
Bill was grateful to his parents for teaching him the gospel of Jesus Christ. He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1970. He served in several capacities in the church. His firm testimony of Jesus Christ was reflected in the way he lived and served others.
Bill loved music. He performed with the Lockport Glee club and played the piano at church. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering around the piano during Christmas Time singing songs. Many times, he was accompanied by amateurs playing instruments that were a little out of tune. Bill was always up for an adventure. He loved to fly, ride rollercoasters, ski, quadding and most of all driving- preferably convertibles. If it had wheels he was in. He was usually up for anything, except shopping even if it was going to be a ‘short trip’.
Bill rarely complained about the illnesses he struggled with and tried not to be limited by them. Bill leaves a legacy of dedication to his family, faith in Jesus Christ and service to others. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, playfulness, artistic abilities, generosity, kindness and love.
He will be greatly missed by his beautiful wife, Lady Katherine, his children: Kelly (Heather), Karen, Sharon (Everett Eh), Adele (Brian), his favorite grandchildren: Makayla, Chance (Amy), Haley, Levi (Naomy), Aden, Hannah, Brianna, Katie and Emily, his siblings: Arlene Class, Donna Richardson, Suzanne (Robert) Treichler, Cliff Akin, Shirley Harrington, Carol (Robert) Dobbs, Susan (Tony) Merry and Sharon Jayne (Nigel) Hughes and many, many nephews, nieces and cousins. He has been reunited with his parents, siblings: Don, Jean, Jerry and Marion, Bud Class, Dave Richardson, Jane Akin, and other loved ones- including Rusty and Scruffy.
