Obituary of Francis Burns

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Francis (Dicker) Patrick Burns entered into  rest on September 4, 2024. He was surrounded by family from near and far. Born February 29, 1940 in Lockport NY. He was a 1958 graduate of DeSales Catholic School in Lockport, NY. He was predeceased by his loving wife Gail (Siedhoff) October 31,  2013.

Dicker had a knack for mechanical things that led to a long career. Among his accomplishments, he was most proud of accepting the Honor of Fireman of the Year in 1968, running his own successful auto  repair business, and finally retiring from Harrison Radiator where he truly worked on cars of the future.

Dicker was a very generous, caring man. He was the son of Leo and Gertrude (Mcreevy) Burns. He is survived by his children,  Daniel (Jennifer) Burns  Renee (Randy) Schrader,  Philip Burns, and grandchildren Steven Amanda Schrader and Madison Burns.  As well as a great- grandchild Ryleigh Schrader; his sister Judy Darlow, multiple nieces and nephews, as well as predeceased sisters Kit Wheatly and Cecily Maez.

His living life was full of adventures with his Soul Mate Gail. The couple were married on May 1, 1965The two enjoyed multiple activities to include bowling, darts, playing cards, horseshoes, home renovation projects and automotive restorations. The two worked flawlessly at everything they conquered together as skills and abilities of one, overlapped the other.

As much as Dick and Gail loved and supported the family, nothing made them happier than traveling. From a rebuilt delivery truck, to a Class A motorhome, to a Bungalow in Punta Gorda FL, when the wind blew they went with it. North, south, east or west, they were the type to enjoy the moment and every person that crossed their path.

Later in life Dicker continued his travels between FL and NY always making stops for family and friends. His last stays in FL were in Travelers Rest retirement community where he enjoyed volunteering in the beautiful expansive gardens, and fun activities with neighbor and close friend, Sandra Yeager.

Upon his passing, the family is comforted with the thoughts that Dick and Gail can continue their travels together as they keep a mindful eye on family and loved ones.

No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience. Please send any flowers or donations to the WNY Alzheimer’s Association Western NY chapter in memory of Francis “dick” Burns. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff involved in his kind and considerate care!
