Obituary of Gary R. DiMaggio

Gary Richard DiMaggio, age 77, a Lockport native, passed away August 1, 2024 at Elderwood in Lockport. Born September 10, 1946, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Gugliuzza) DiMaggio.  Gary lived most of his adult life in Orange. California and moved back to Lockport in 2007. He was a resident of Briarwood Manor and then Elderwood at Lockport the last years of his life.

 

Gary attended Lockport schools until his family moved to California in1962. As a sophomore at Lockport Senior High School, he excelledon the playing field in both baseball and football. He also played baseball for and graduated from Orange (CA) High School in 1964.  He was a Service veteran, in the US Army from 1966-69. He was also an accomplished chess and billiards player.

 

He is survived by his brothers: Jack (Kathleen) DiMaggio of Lockport, Joseph (Carrie) DiMaggio of Yorba Linda, CA, and a sister, Linda DiMaggio of CA; also, many nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of Gary's life and a Memorial Mass will be held Friday, August 16th at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.  Memorial gifts in Gary's name may be made to:  Sister Helen's Food Pantry, St John the Baptist Church, 160 Chestnut St, Lockport, NY 14094.
