Obituary of Tammy Kowalski

Tammy Marie (nee Phelan) Kowalski, age 55, of Lockport, NY, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, after a lengthy illness, while under the care of Niagara Hospice.  Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of Julie (Gajewski) Hylkema and the late John J. Phelan.  Tammy had been employed as a Home Health Care Aide for 25 years with Mercy Home Care in Buffalo.  She was a member of All Saints R.C. Church in Lockport as well as The Dale Association.  Tammy’s hobbies included playing Bingo, and long conversations with friends on the phone.  She also enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren.

Tammy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Duane Kowalski, a son Paul Kowalski, a daughter Jamie (Alex) Scott, her mother and step-father Julie (Joe) Hylkema, two sisters, Rebecca Hylkema and Kelly (Mike) Corrieri, two brothers, Joey (Hannah) Hylkema and Michael Hylkema, and one grandchild Lucas Scott. 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home 242 Genesee St. in Lockport, where Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 10 AM.  Burial will be in Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport.  Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute P.O. Box 631 Buffalo, NY 14240 or to Niagara Hospice  4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport NY 14094.
