Obituary of Gretchen E. Lang
Gretchen E. “Humphreys” Lang passed away on Friday May 10, 2024 at Buffalo General Hospital.
Gretchen grew up on the top of Blanchard Road Hill in Colden, NY where she attended a one room schoolhouse until 7th grade. She graduated from Griffith Institute in Springville in 1960. In high school she enjoyed participating in theatre, chorus and working at the Dairy Bar in Orchard Park. At the Dairy Bar, she met her future husband, Richard Lang. They were married for 62 years.
Gretchen was a substitute teacher at various schools in Erie and Niagara Counties. She also was a security guard for Kenyons, Ames and Kmart stores throughout Western NY. She earned an Associate Degree from GCC and worked in advertising sales for the Medina Journal Register and the Albion Pennysaver. She was also a member of the Kenan Quilters and made many beautiful award winning quilts for her friends, family, local nursing homes and charities. She was a “mom” to many of her husband’s wrestlers and an incredible supporter of her husband, family and anyone she could help. Gretchen could often be found with Richard at her grandchildren’s musicals and sporting events. She leaves behind a loving family, sons John (Therese) and Michael “Edgar” (Deanne) and grandchildren Abbey, Hogan, Johnathan, Murphy, Madigan, Kennedy, and McCarthy. Gretchen is also survived by brothers Hank, Richard, Frank and brother-in-law, David and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday May 13th 4-7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 14th at 11 AM in Christ Episcopal Church, 7145 Fieldcrest DR., Lockport. Interment will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery. Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
