Obituary of Joel W. Harris

On Monday April 22, 2024 Joel (Jock) Harris of Lockport, NY, loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather passed away surrounded by his family, after a very courageous battle with cancer.  Joel was born in Newfane NY, the Son of the late Eva General and Cecil (Rita)Harris. He was a member of the Ondondaga Clear Sky, Turtle Clan, Six Nations Reserve, Oshweken Ontario.

Joel was a very loyal, caring, and selfless person, he would help anyone who needed it.  Joel’s greatest love was his family.  He was so proud of all of his Children.  Any time one of his Kids was around he would light up.

He was a very active and hard-working man.  Growing up he played both baseball and football.  He was a skilled contractor and worked over the years doing home and business renovations, roofing, and siding.  He took a lot of pride in his work and always strived for perfection. 

Joel is survived by:  his wife Thea Harris, Children: Rachel Young, Joel Harris II, Amber (Matt) Sherwin, Courtney Carnes, Nathaniel Harris, Peyton Harris, Dylan Harris, William Harris, and Lorraine Harris, Siblings: Leona, Mike (late Cynthia), Lawren, Scott, Patrick, Cecilia, Tony (Erica), Rodney (Cheryl) Staats, Jane Morehead. Special Sister in-laws Rona “Chop” Harris, and Sheila Harris. Grandchildren: Evanna Young, Lanae Lowe, Silas & Liam Sherwin, Mason & Ashwiyaa Carnes. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and too many nieces and nephews to list individually but he loved you all! 

He was predeceased by his parents Eva General, Cecil (Rita) Harris, siblings Kenneth, Pete, William, Darren, and Jodine Harris, Cameron and David Staats.
