Obituary of Rev. Larry F. Hendricks
Larry F. Hendricks, 82, entered into heaven on March 9, 2024, in The Villages, Florida, where he retired to in 2014. Born November 19, 1941, in Lockport, NY, he was the son of Alice (née Donner) and Lester Hendricks, and the beloved husband of Suanne (née White) for 59 years.
Larry was the proud father of Lori Hendricks of South Dartmouth, MA; Tammy (Eric) Laub of Natick, MA; David (Casey) Hendricks of Atlanta; and Jon (Becca) Hendricks of Hobart, IN. He was especially enamored with his four amazing grandchildren: Victoria and William Laub; and Addy and Rachel Hendricks.
Larry profoundly impacted many people through his lifelong sense of service to others, both before and after he became an ordained Lutheran minister at 41. He was the owner and operator of Convenient Food Mart on Walnut Street in Lockport from 1971 until he entered the ministry in 1992. He served as pastor to Grace Lutheran Church in Sylvan Beach, NY; St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Kensington, PA; Chapel of the Redeemer in Queens, NY; and Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, NY. While in NYC, Larry was one of the Ground Zero counselors to first responders immediately following the 911 tragedy.
A 1960 Lockport High School graduate, Larry received a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in 1965 before serving in the Air National Guard. He later completed his master’s degree in Theology from Concordia Seminary in St. Catherines, Ontario, and his doctorate in Theology from Concordia Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN.
While in Lockport, Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Kiwanis Club, a benefactor and volunteer with the Salvation Army, and an avid supporter of youth sports. He had a passion for stamp collecting and history, especially the Civil War. After retirement, and when not watching auto racing, Larry enjoyed touring Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, and Central America with Suanne at his side.
