On the first day of class I asked him if he knew what my favorite TV show was; Bonkers and he said he absolutely hated it. For the entirety of his class every time I mentioned Bonkers in his History of Animation class he said he literally did not understand why I even liked it. I tried making him laugh while he was alive and I guess I succeeded because he'd laugh whenever I made jokes. His class made me understand why Animation history is so important to me, and I want other people to understand why it's so important. You learn so much stuff and you meet great people who understand. Scott understood why I liked animation history and he once exclaimed that I probably knew everything about 90s Animation since I always talked about it.

Professor Mawhiney was a incredible professor and animator. i had scott this semester for film theory and he was so well spoken and knew his craft well and just wanted to spread his knowledge and experiences to us. I wish i got to know him better and pick his brain about history of animation and the industry. rest easy professor you will be missed

I was a student of Scott's. He will be deeply missed by everyone here at Villa Maria. I used to go into his class early and watch what video he would put on before class started. He was an extremely knowledgeable man and I will always remember when he made a reference to one of my favorite shows during one of his lectures because I had a photo of it as my profile on our learning site. I remember him referencing it, giving me a quick glance, and I felt noticed. He was such a well versed historian of animation, always having little stories and tidbits to tell. While in his History of Animation class, I noted the most important and interesting films that he went over into a list to watch someday. He is and will forever be one of my favorite professors, and I am honored to have had him as a professor for two semesters. To his family, I hope you find this message warming, and forever keep him in your memory, I know I will.
