Obituary of Rita N. Hannigan

Rita N. Hannigan passed away on January 23, 2024. She was born on March 28, 1935 in Lockport, New York, a daughter of Robert and Catherine (Fonzi) Napoleone. Rita was a business manager for multiple catholic schools throughout her career, but she spent the most time at DeSales High School. She was passionate about education and routinely offered her support in countless ways to students, staff, and the community. Always with a smile. Rita was creative, thoughtful, empathetic, and generous. She tremendously enjoyed cultivating her beautiful gardens and bird watching. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and the best neighbor ever, Dan Sherwood.

Rita is survived by her children Fran (Cherie) Hannigan; Mike Hannigan, Thérèse (James Watters) Hannigan, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son John (Lori) Hannigan, and brother Louis Napoleone.

The family will greet relatives and friends Monday, January 29th in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations to DeSales Catholic School, 6914 Chestnut Ridge Rd.,  Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated. Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
