It was a real pleasure working with Paul! He was a seasoned engineered but understood the importance of newer trends like incorporating walking and biking in his projects. He took the time to teach colleauges what he knew and make us laugh along the way.

I worked at DDOT with Paul, and we first met when he came by our new library and excitedly told me his wife was a librarian too. He often came in to use our resources, but also just to chat with me and tell me how our historical engineering artifacts worked. He was so friendly, and as a new professional it was wonderful to have someone so enthusiastic about the work I was doing. Paul was so kind and funny, and I always looked forward to him coming by! He will be much missed.

Recently learned of the loss of Paul Hoffman, a great engineer I worked with in the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for many years. Paul had a very kind heart, loved to share his knowledge of the workings of transportation, and was a very dedicated professional. He was a great help to me in implementing the DC Circulator National Mall Route many years ago, one of the signature routes of the service. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Paul Hoffman was not only a friend and experienced engineer who mentored a lot of young engineers but also a man of exceptional character with a great sense of humor. As a seasoned professional, he showcased his engineering expertise with grace and skill, making him a standout presenter. Paul was an asset to the engineering field and left a lasting impression with his positive/humorous demeanor. His contributions reflected well on the engineering profession, and he will be remembered fondly. Rest in peace, you will dearly be missed.

Paul was a good friend. We worked at District Department of Transportation (DDOT) together for several years, where he had great impact on important projects throughout DC. We enjoyed baseball games at Nationals Stadium together (and a few beers). We were in yoga classes together. We both participated in the American Council of Engineering Companies activities and were active members. We talked about the consistency of exercise and his swimming discipline. I will miss him greatly. He was always a calming energy in any event. He would often end many conversations with a joke no matter what the topic. My condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks for sharing this memory and picture, Keith. He was consistent with swimming and yoga... I remember before DDOT he was losing some mobility and function in his shoulder, and through yoga he got most of it back! I know he was thrilled to be able to get to Nats games so frequently. --Nick

Thank you for this picture of Paul at the Nat's game. He loved the location of the stadium and took advantage of those afternoon games whenever he could. He was so lucky to have great friends and colleagues through his work at DC DDOT. Thank you, Kim

Paul and I overlapped at DDOT for 6 years, and we both discussed our love for baseball. When I left DDOT, he gave me a Bryce Harper Bobblehead as a going-away gift. Good man! My condolences to the family.

One of the best memories I have of Paul is when I song for his retirement "Hero", I saw the tears in Paul's eyes, and I got choked up. I have been encouraged by Paul in so many ways, and I will always be grateful for his encouraging words.

Thank you for sharing this memory, Theresa, and thank you for singing this at his retirement party! I wish I could have been there at his retirement party. I've heard my brother describe it many times -- I think he (my brother) was a little shocked at how well-liked Paul was at DDOT!

I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He and I worked in the engineering profession here in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia. We knew of each other in the profession but became friends after a meeting we had at the VDOT NOVA District office. As I was walking to my car after the meeting. I stepped up to open the car door when he came out of his car in front of me and said, "I was wondering who had the Sabres and Bills magnets on that car." I said of course I do I'm from South Buffalo. From that point on we always stayed connected. I remember talking to him before he moved back north wishing him well and hoping we get a chance to run into each other when I get back to visit my family. Paul was a good engineer, a leader and a great guy. My condolences to his family.
