Obituary of Dr. Robert Geckler, DDS
Dr Robert Geckler, a long time Lockport resident, passed away peacefully December 31st, 2023 following a short illness. Dr Geckler was predeceased by his parents Charles and Florence Geckler of Amherst, NY and his beloved wife Marcia Francis (McGlynn) Geckler. A graduate of Amherst Central, The University of Buffalo, and the University of Buffalo Dental School, Bob practiced dentistry in Lockport for over 50 years. Bob served in the US Army from 1955 to 1961, returning after service to Buffalo, Dental School, and Marcia. Later in life Dr Geckler took great joy in joining the faculty at UB, helping guide future dentists. In 2008, Dr Geckler was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental fraternity and in 2016 UB conferred a certificate of teaching excellence of his distinguished clinical instruction.
Dr Geckler had a life long love of magic, performing as “Dr Bob”. He was a member and past President of the Gene Gordon Ring 12 and a member of the Order of Merlin. The hobby, introduced to him by his Grandfather, remained a source of pleasure through his entire life. Bob also is a past President of the Lockport Rotary and recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow. For many years in retirement Bob was a regular ticket taker at the Palace theater, a service position he took great joy in.
Bobs love of the Church and devotion to the teachings of Christ guided him through his life. As a member of St Patrick’s and later St John’s congregations Bob was active as a Eucharist minister and in his retirement attained a certificate in theological studies.
Bob is survived by his sons Jeffrey (Lori) Geckler and James (Peter) Geckler and his grandson Michael Geckler, along with many loved relatives.
