My condolence to the Family of Paul A. Menard.
My name is Joe Napp and I was a US Army Lieutenant "LT" in the 2nd Civil Affairs Company in the USA and Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. Paul worked for me in the USA and later we different jobs at the Plantation Base Camp in 1966 and 1967. He was part of the Construction Detail building the base camp. At different times, we both strung the Perimeter Concertina Wire at the Base Camp as well as later filled 'more than one sand bag' to build perimeter bunkers and other structures. He was later assigned to Field Teams for his second and third year oversea in Vietnam. I thought he was 'One of the Very Fine and Great Young Soldiers' that I ever served with. We had a Great Group of Young Soldiers back then 1966 and 1967. He was one of the outstanding young man.
We did get to speak around 2016 and hopefully he could have attended the 2nd Civil Affairs Company's second reunion where the unit was awarded a Special Memorial Monument Stone (3' x 5') at the US Army Special Operations Plaza at Fort Bragg. We had hoped that he could attend. He said one of His Sons was getting Married on Memorial Day Weekend in 2016 and could not attend. His friends - the Late Ed Martin and the Late Stan Lukasik were going to pickup Paul and Christine and drive them down to Fort Bragg in Ed Martin's vehicle. Sorry that he could not attend.
I had professional business in Buffalo area a few years back, I drove to Tonawanda Creek Road and hoped to find Paul, but 'no luck'. Later the same day, I went to the Stan Lukasik funeral service near the airport.
Except for Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Paul served his entire three years in the 2nd Civil Affairs Company. Only a Handful of Men served almost three years overseas, Paul was one of the very fine young soldiers. His last assignments were in Vietnam were at An Loc area and very dangerous, very near by Cambodia border area. The area was loaded with 'Agent Orange' and we all have our problems now with 'Agent Orange' issues.
There are a few pictures of Paul on the 2nd Civil Affairs website (www.2ndCivilAffairs.com) - picture from Fort Gordon times (June 66 - Oct 66) on
HEADQUARTERS PHOTOS and overseas pictures under the 10th Platoon on PHOTOS PLATOONS.
I a very sorry for your loss. For me and during my time, Paul was a Great Young Soldier and very good person. I am sure he is now at Peace and with Our Lord in Heaven now.

Kaka(what I called him) was an amazing grandpa.... someone who I will never forget or replace; the best grandpa ever. He would always; back at his old house, chase me even if he couldn't walk, he'd use his powerchair to chase me, and he really did try to be the best grandpa ever, and I don't care what people say, their grandpa 100% was NOT as good as mine. I'd always be next to him (after we moved I kind of spaced away and regret that-) doing something like organizing my Pokemon cards, drawing, or talking with him. Quite literally I scream when excited or like I'm going crazy I don't know (It's how my parents know if I'm ok or not, if I'm screaming it means I'm fine.) and I think it kept him alive longer, he held on tight with his life. He never stopped smiling, was kind, and really good mannered. I am so glad he is able to rest in peace with Grandma Chris, Bo, Thunder, and his family, friends, and other dogs in Heaven. Fly high, "Ka-Ka"!
