Obituary of Maurice R. Mongeon, Jr.
Maurice "Chip" R. Mongeon, Jr. , Cambria, passed away August 13, 2023 after a courageous 20 month battle with a rare cancer. Born May 22, 1960 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Maurice R. and Esther (Olivieri) Mongeon, Sr.
Chip owned and operated Maurice Mongeon Builders in Lockport for 44 years constructing custom new homes and remodeling, sadly retiring, due to his illness, in 2021. He possessed remarkable skills as a home builder, designer and craftsman, demonstrating the ability to personally construct residences from inception to completion. He took immense pride in maintaining and enhancing his rental properties, ensuring the best indoor and outdoor experience for his tenants.
He was a member of Klub 60, White Falcons, and the Amherst Ballroom Dancing Clubs. Chip enjoyed fishing, skiing, attending Artpark Rock Concerts and Lewiston Blues Concerts. He also loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends, working on home projects, maintaining a beautiful property, and was an avid Buffalo sports fan.
Chip was a remarkable man whose heart overflowed with love for his cherished family and beloved pets. His unwavering devotion to those he held dear was a testament to his kind and caring nature. Chip's presence was a constant source of joy, as his humor and intelligence lit up every room he entered. Jovial and talkative, he effortlessly fostered connections with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His innate understanding and empathy made him a confidant and friend to many. Chip's legacy is one of profound affection, where the bonds he shared with his family and pets remain a testament to the enduring love they reciprocated. He will forever be remembered for his warm personality and the lasting impact he made on the lives he touched.
Chip is survived by his wife, Mary (Wood) Mongeon; children Maurice "Moe" (Kailey) Mongeon III, Alea (Zach) Newman, and Emily (Jimmy Spellman) Mongeon; grandchild Nova Mongeon; siblings Jill (Joseph) Lane, Lisa (late Glyn) Wood, and Laura (Robert Filippone) Mongeon; also several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours: Friday, August 18th 4-7 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home: 242 Genesee St, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 19th 10AM at St. John the Baptist Church: 168 Chestnut St, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery. Immediately following, please join the family for a luncheon ~ 12:30pm at Freedom Run Winery, 5138 Lower Mountain Rd, Lockport where we will celebrate his life and share memories.
