Obituary of John P. Oates

John P. Oates passed away June 26, 2023 peacefully in Lockport.  Born January 22, 1931 in Lockport he was the son of Edwin and Elsa (Bennett) Oates.  He worked for New York State Dept. of Agriculture as a Dairy Inspector for 31 years.  John was also very active in local politics both county and city for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and wintering in Florida.  John was predeceased by his wife Mary Rhoda (Green) Oates.

John is survived by his children Patrick (Meg Laux) Oates, Monica (James) Berry, Joseph Oates, Daniel (Amy) Oates, Matthew Oates, Leslie Oates, David Oates, Stephine (Lou) Luc, and Kathleen Oates-Bowen; grandchildren Shawn Berry, Kenon (Chris) Gardner, Riley Oates, Antoine (Tiarah) Ewing, Cameron Bowen, Skylar Luc, Christian Luc, Tyree (Michele) Short, Malachy Oates, Zachary Oates, and John Michael Oates; great grandchildren Jimmy Berry, Jack and Mae Gardner, Alanni and River Ewing; also several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by sister Beatrice (Howard) Fitzgerald and in-laws Harry (Phyllis) Green and Jack Green.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, July 5th from 4-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 6th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
